11 March 2016 – Hello! My name is Yvette and I’m a student from the Netherlands. I stay at Peduli Anak for four months as an intern for my bachelor Social Work. I have been in Peduli Anak for one month and I’m loving it here!

Peduli Anak is a great organization, with all amazing kids and staff. Peduli Anak is very well organized. Even though there are so many children, every child gets the attention he or she needs. I feel very honored to be part of this.

What is my contribution?

Every morning I teach two children in the kindergarten. They are 4 and 7 years old and we teach them things like reading, writing, drawing and we even sing together sometimes. My favorite lesson is to teach the children how to swim. Three times a week I counsel/ tutor two girls by drawing, playing educational games and helping them with reading and writing. On Wednesday, we have a girls club with girls from 11 and 12 years old. In the girls club we do fun things like making bracelets, handicrafts, photography or playing games. On Tuesday and Thursday I give photography lessons. On every lesson I give the kids a different topic to photograph. The kids really enjoy this! Besides all this, I help the children with homework, play games with them and I try to help where ever I can.

Carnival
On Sunday, the 28th of February, there was a big carnival celebration in Lombok. Seven villages were participating in the carnival and they asked Peduli Anak to join as well. A village close to Peduli Anak asked whether one of the volunteers wanted to join them, so I went there. They did my make-up, gave me traditional clothing and made me a Sasak bride. In a big parade we walked through the rice fields from village to village. Some of the older boys joined the carnival parade as well, wearing the uniform of Peduli Anak and carrying a Peduli Anak flag. It was a great day!
