Girls’ Session: Learning About Menstrual Cycle
At Peduli Anak, we believe in giving our children not just academic knowledge but also important life education — including topics that are often considered too “taboo” to talk about. That’s why we were so grateful to hold a Menstrual Cycle Class led by our wonderful volunteers, Shay and Loane.
In this special session, 11 girls joined to learn more about what actually happens during their monthly cycle. Through clear explanations, real-life discussions, and a safe space to share, the class became an eye-opening and empowering experience for everyone involved.
Assistant and Translator
Throughout the class, one of our bright girls, Lasmin, played an important role in helping the session run smoothly. She operated the laptop to navigate through the presentation slides and also helped translate what Shay and Loane explained, making sure that all her friends could understand clearly.
“This class really opened my eyes,” Lasmin said. “Now I understand what’s happening in my body each month. It’s not just about getting my period — it’s about understanding the whole 28-day cycle and why I sometimes feel different.”
Her words perfectly reflect how valuable the session was for the girls — turning what was once confusing or uncomfortable into something they could understand and talk about with confidence.

Sharing and Realizing Individual Differences
One of the most meaningful parts of the session was when the girls shared their own experiences. Some talked about mood swings, others about physical discomfort — and they were surprised to find that while many of their feelings were similar, each person’s experience was also unique.
Through these discussions, they learned that it’s completely normal to feel emotional changes, cravings, or tiredness during their cycle. They also learned how hormones play a big role, and that understanding their bodies helps them be kinder to themselves and more supportive of one another.
Thank You for Empowering Our Girls
Thanks to Shay and Loane, our girls now feel more informed, supported, and confident about their menstrual health. Sessions like this help break the stigma and give girls the tools they need to navigate puberty with knowledge and self-respect.
We’re deeply thankful to our volunteers for creating such a safe and supportive space. At Peduli Anak, we believe that every girl deserves to understand and embrace her body — and this class was a beautiful step in that direction.
