Ajeng’s Story as a Volunteer

For two weeks, Ajeng, a Grade 9 student at Sekolah Nusa Alam, volunteered at Yayasan Peduli Anak. Through learning activities with the children, she gained new experiences, discovered a different environment, and saw how simple moments can bring people closer together.

Ajeng first learned about Yayasan Peduli Anak through her school, which had organised several donation activities for the foundation. These visits introduced her to Peduli Anak and sparked her interest in becoming a volunteer. She hoped to gain new experiences and learn things that could be useful for her future.

Learning with the Children

During her time as a volunteer, Ajeng taught English to students in Grades 1 to 4, helped them with numeracy, and supported their daily learning activities. This gave her the opportunity to interact with the children and experience the learning environment at Peduli Anak firsthand.

One of her most memorable experiences was entering the Grade 4 classroom for the first time and meeting Zidan. She remembers how warmly the children welcomed her and quickly invited her to join them. Their friendly response made her feel accepted from the very first day, just as she had hoped.

A New Experience

Ajeng felt comfortable interacting with the children in Peduli Anak’s welcoming environment. Although the children sometimes lost focus during lessons, she still enjoyed helping them learn and did not face many major challenges during her time as a volunteer.

The experience also gave her the chance to try something new outside her usual school routine. Through her everyday interactions with the children, Ajeng learned to adapt to a different environment and gained experiences beyond the classroom.

One of the most important lessons Ajeng took away from volunteering was the importance of being kind, smiling, and making friends with everyone. For her, the experience was not only about sharing time and knowledge, but also about learning from the people she met.

Now that her time as a volunteer has come to an end, Ajeng says she will miss the children. Although her stay lasted only two weeks, the experience left a lasting impression on her. She also mentioned that she might visit again in December during the school holidays.

Thank you, Ajeng, for giving your time and sharing your kindness with the children at Yayasan Peduli Anak. We hope this experience remains a valuable part of your journey ahead.
