Surabaya Intercultural School Visits Peduli Anak
On 23 September, Peduli Anak welcomed 18 students from Surabaya Intercultural School. They spent the visit in our hall, playing games and learning alongside our Grade 3 children.
The students brought a set of hands-on activities, from crafts and magic tricks to English games. Every activity got our children moving, making things and learning as they went.
Crafting with Thread and Paper
One activity was making bracelets from thread. Our children picked their colours, tied the knots and finished each bracelet by hand, which takes patience and care.
They also tried paper folding. Every fold has to be made carefully and in the right order, so the children learned to follow the steps one by one until the shape came together.
Magic Tricks and English Games
The hall got livelier when the students brought out their magic tricks. The simple tricks left our children curious, and before long they wanted to try them themselves.
In another session, the children learned English through games. They used new words right away while they played, which made them more willing to speak up, even if they weren’t fluent yet.
Before the visit ended, the Surabaya Intercultural School students handed out gifts to our children. It was a fitting way to close a day of play, learning and new friends.
Meeting guests from a different school and city also helped our children feel more confident. When everyone is busy knotting bracelets, folding paper and playing games, it’s much easier to start a conversation.
For our Grade 3 children, the visit made a nice change from their usual classroom routine. They went home with things they had made themselves, a few magic tricks and some new English words.
Our thanks go to Surabaya Intercultural School for visiting, for their creative ideas and for the gifts they brought for our children. It was a pleasure to welcome them to Peduli Anak.
