The room quickly filled with curiosity as children gathered for a Journalism Club session led by Kak Ashri from NTBSatu News. What started as a simple session soon turned into an engaging introduction to the world of storytelling and news writing.

Through this experience, the children were not only learning something new, but also discovering a profession they may not have considered before.

Becoming “Story Detectives”

During the session, the children were introduced to the idea that journalists are “story detectives” whose role is to share facts rather than opinions.

They also learned the basic structure of writing a news story by answering key questions such as what happened, who was involved, where and when it took place, why it happened, and how the story unfolded.

This simple approach helped them understand how to organize information clearly and turn it into a meaningful story.

Learning Through Practice and Play

Beyond the theory, the children were encouraged to create their own short stories based on examples shared during the session. They practiced observing, organizing information, and expressing their ideas in their own words.

The atmosphere was lively, with children actively asking questions, sharing thoughts, and trying out their writing with confidence. This process not only strengthened their writing skills but also helped them feel more confident in expressing themselves.

Activities like this open up new ways for children to think critically and communicate more clearly. At the same time, they begin to see that storytelling and writing can be part of a future career path.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Kak Ashri for sharing her time and knowledge with the children at Peduli Anak. Her presence created a meaningful learning experience and broadened the children’s perspective on journalism.

Through this session, the children not only learned how to write, but also how to observe, understand, and share the world around them in a more thoughtful way.
