Psychological First Aid for Our Foster Mothers
Foster mothers at Peduli Anak took part in a Psychological First Aid workshop led by our psychologist, Zulfa. The workshop created a shared learning space to better understand how to provide appropriate emotional support for children in different situations.
The session felt even more meaningful as foster mothers and counselors from Peduli Anak Sumbawa Center also joined the workshop. Their presence created a wider space for learning, where experiences, perspectives, and approaches to supporting children could be shared with one another.
Learning How to Provide the Right Support
During the workshop, the foster mothers and counselors were introduced to the basics of Psychological First Aid and how this approach can help children feel safe, heard, and understood when facing emotionally difficult situations.
Through discussions and interactive sessions, they also learned how to build more supportive communication, recognize children’s emotional responses, and provide calmer and more empathetic support.

Learning Through Case Discussions
In addition to the main sessions, the foster mothers and counselors also took part in case study discussions, where they worked in groups to talk through different situations they may face while supporting children. Each group shared perspectives and explored possible approaches for handling those situations.
After the group discussions, they came together with other groups and the psychologist to reflect on the cases more deeply. These sessions helped broaden their perspectives and strengthen their understanding of how to provide better support for children.
Activities like this are important because children need environments that are not only physically safe, but also emotionally supportive. When foster mothers and counselors have a better understanding of Psychological First Aid, they are better prepared to respond to children’s needs with care and attention.
Through learning spaces like this, Peduli Anak continues to strengthen a more sustainable support system, helping every child grow in an environment where they feel safe, supported, and understood.
