English Program for Foster Mothers
At Peduli Anak, learning is not only focused on children but also on the foster mothers who support them every day. After being on pause for a while, our English class reopened when volunteer Heidi joined us and taught for about two weeks. The sessions were designed to be interactive and became a valuable opportunity for the mothers to gradually build their English skills.
The Return of the English Class
Over the course of two weeks, the English lessons were held regularly using a light and approachable teaching style. The mothers learned basic vocabulary, simple sentence structures, and everyday expressions that could be applied in real conversation.
In addition to written and spoken practice, they were encouraged to try pronouncing words, forming sentences, and speaking with one another. Although the program was short, it successfully brought back their enthusiasm for learning and gave them a new level of confidence in using English.

Positive Impact on Their Caregiving Role
This program has offered direct benefits for the foster mothers, especially when supporting children with schoolwork at home. Many children study English at school and often bring homework that requires guidance. With the new skills gained from the class, the mothers are now more capable of helping children understand assignments, expand vocabulary, and build sentences correctly.
The improvement in language ability also boosts their confidence when communicating with international volunteers or guests, helping them engage more actively in conversations and daily interactions in the foundation.
An Interactive Learning Environment
Heidi’s communicative approach encouraged everyone to participate, through dialogue practice, Q&A, and group activities that made the lessons lively and enjoyable. The relaxed atmosphere helped the mothers feel comfortable speaking, even if they were still beginners.
Through this hands-on learning experience, the material was absorbed more easily and the mothers became more confident to keep exploring and improving their English skills. Positive interaction within the group also created a learning space filled with encouragement and support.

The English class with Heidi has been a meaningful step in supporting the personal development of our foster mothers. Although the program took place over a short period, it successfully reignited their learning spirit and opened the door for future growth.
Looking ahead, we hope to continue similar programs with the help of upcoming volunteers. With consistent learning activities, the foster mothers will have more opportunities to strengthen their skills, broaden their knowledge, and communicate with greater confidence in diverse situations.
