Ismail, a 6-year-old boy, has to face immense challenges at such a young age. Ismail suffers from Lupus, an autoimmune disease that makes his life very different from other children. His hair struggles to grow, his skin is highly sensitive to sunlight, and his body is prone to infections that often cause prolonged high fevers. Every day is a battle for Ismail.
Ismail’s life story is filled with trials. His mother also suffered from Lupus, but due to their extremely difficult life, her illness went untreated and worsened, eventually claiming her life. The family’s financial hardship prevented her from getting the care she needed. This heavy burden has further crushed their family, leaving Ismail and his siblings neglected.
Ismail and his family once lived in Malaysia, where his father struggled to provide for them. However, when his mother fell ill from untreated Lupus, their situation worsened. Without proper treatment, her health continued to decline, and they had to return to Indonesia in a destitute condition. The father could not take care of Ismail and his siblings, and Ismail began showing symptoms of the Lupus he inherited from his mother. They arrived in a dire state, malnourished and lacking medical attention, carrying a heartbreaking story that still haunts Ismail today.
At Peduli Anak, Ismail has begun receiving the much-needed care. His malnourished condition is being addressed, but the long journey to fight Lupus is still ahead. Long-term treatment for Lupus requires ongoing support.
