As part of our commitment to improve child’s quality of life and child’s right to receive proper health care, Peduli Anak support emergency medical response for impoverished children in rural and remote communities on Lombok island by assessing the availability of emergency medical care, helping to find the treatment they need, supporting the rights of patients to receive such care, and emergency physicians to provide such care.

Due to the emergencies and complex hospital care, quite often we are unable to find such care on Lombok island where hospitals are under-resourced and health services fragmented.

Therefore, we help the patient’s family to find second opinion, research care availabilities in major cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali island, and organize fundraising campaigns to cover medical costs and support the patient’s family.

In recent years we have successfully helped hundreds of children in medical emergency, including complicated heart surgeries cases.

Peduli Anak supports the Child Protection Services and Social Services in helping children who have experienced abuse and neglect by providing a safe, child-friendly environment and assistance for interviews, counseling, and medical evaluations.

We also offer continued support to child abuse victims in case family reunification is not an option and alternative care is necessary. Through weekly sessions and regular communications, our team builds a healthy relationship with the victims in order to reduce trauma, seek justice, foster hope, and healing for them.

If a child tells you that he or she has been hurt, or you are concerned that a child may be a victim of abuse or neglect, please call the authority or Social Services. You may also contact us to alert the authority.

Education

Education

In the first year, Peduli Anak decides to build an elementary school for the education of the children who live on campus. 13 years later, in 2019, Peduli Anak decides to build a Middle School.

It’s been our dream to have our own Middle School because this is a critical time when a child becomes adolescent and easily susceptible to peer pressure and bad influences. The number of school dropouts also tends to increase during this stage. With our own Middle School, Peduli Anak has full control over a child’s primary education and quality.

Thanks to Family Koper and Shri Shastry’s help so that we can build the school we dream of.

Family Care

Family Care

Children end up on the streets for various reasons. Often, parents cannot afford food, education and medical care. Socio-economic and other factors make it hard for parents to create the ideal home environment, forcing children into child labor or onto the streets.

The Peduli Anak’s Child and Family Welfare Programme aims to support disadvantaged children and their families by allowing children to focus on education. Parents also receive training, counselling and supervision to help them keep their children at home.

Peduli Anak, endorsed by the Directorate General of Child Rehabilitation and Social Services, works closely with the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs in promoting primary education and family care for underprivileged children. Peduli Anak is the first NGO in West Nusa Tenggara province to participate in the nationwide Child Social Welfare Programme (PKSA).

In 2018, the government stopped the PKSA programme. However, Peduli Anak continues to support children and family under its own Family Care programme with support from its donors. Supports are prioritized to children who formerly lived in Peduli Anak homes but have returned to their family/parent. The types of support are varied from scholarship to good parenting training.

Peduli Anak is a Dutch-Indonesian charity non-profit organization in Lombok, Indonesia, dedicated to providing family like care, education, family care, medical and legal support to thousands of neglected and abused children whom have been placed in our care by Indonesian child social services.

We have 14 family-like houses available for maximum 10 children per house. In the family home, the children are being taken care of by a mother figure, mimicking a real family environment.

With this living arrangement, we can help children who have experienced trauma and troubled past from being overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings of the past.

We believe by providing our children a safe home, healthy life, quality education and most importantly love, we encourage them to develop to their full potential and work towards positive changes in their life and others.

Peduli Anak provides temporary and permanent family-like care for children referred by the Child Social Agency. Our fundamental goal is to reunite children with their families if possible. We provide care for children who are awaiting placement in suitable alternative care or are in process of reuniting with their family.

Education

Education plays a very important role to forever change the life of our children. Unfortunately, primary education is not completely free for all. There are still a great number of children who cannot go to school because their parents cannot afford to buy school materials and uniforms. Besides that, many public schools in rural areas lack qualified teachers and facilities. All of this put a delay in students' progress.

Based on those reasons, Peduli Anak decided to build its own elementary school where children in Peduli Anak and children from poor families could have access to good education free of charge. From books, lunches to the extracurricular activities, we provide everything for the students in Peduli Anak Primary School.

The Koper family from The Netherlands sponsored the school building in 2009 and since then has partially supported the school operational. In 2010, the Indonesian Minister of Education and the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara province inaugurated Peduli Anak Primary School. Two years later, the school is nationally accredited with grade A, becoming the only school with such recognition in its district.

In the 2018-2019 school year, the number of students is at a record high of 70, in which 45% of the students come from the neighboring villages. The school employs 10 staff with occasional help from volunteers.

Health Care

Many Indonesian children have no access to basic healthcare and medicine due to poverty and illiteracy.

Peduli Anak’s well-equipped clinic provides free-of-charge preventative and primary care. Children receive check-ups on arrival and their medical needs are assessed. Afterwards, they are registered with doctors, nurses, dentists, and opticians.

The clinic also provides medical services to surrounding communities at no charge. Peduli Anak’s children and staff frequently receive information and advice with regards to a healthy diet, sex education, the advantages of regular exercise, road safety and the risks of smoking.
